A Night of Psychoanalysis and Art: Featuring Utah Artists Edi Roberson, LeConte Stewart, and Heidi Moller Somsen

with James Poulton, PhD and Stephen Morris, PhD

Friday, Apr 17, 2020

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Join us for an evening of conversation about selected paintings from Utah artists Edi Roberson, LeConte Stewart and Heidi Moller Somsen. We'll consider the social and historical context in which the artworks were created, the personalities of the artists, and the various meanings - psychoanalytic and otherwise - that can be ascribed to the works. We want to encourage this evening to be more discussion than presentation, so participants will be asked to view the artworks in advance and to come prepared with their own thoughts and perspectives.

1.     Participants will utilize multiple psychoanalytic concepts in the interpretation of art from three diverse artistic traditions.
2.     Participants will compare, from a psychoanalytic perspective, Roberson's Stewart's and Moller Somsen's views of the nature of emotion, human experience, and the unconscious.
